The Power of Scrum Teams – The Smallest Yet Most Effective Unit
In Scrum, the smallest and most crucial unit is the Scrum Team. Comprising a Scrum Master, a Product Owner, and Developers, the team is a united group of professionals working towards one common goal – the Product Goal.
The Scrum Team is a cross-functional team, meaning each member possesses the skills necessary to create value during each Sprint. The team is also self-managing, allowing them to determine the allocation of responsibilities and work as they see fit.
With a focus on productivity and effective communication, Scrum Teams typically consist of 10 or fewer people. If the team grows too large, it’s recommended to reorganize into smaller, cohesive teams that share the same Product Goal, Product Backlog, and Product Owner.
The Scrum Team is responsible for all product-related activities, from stakeholder collaboration and verification to maintenance, operation, and research and development. The organization empowers the team to manage their own work, and Sprints help to sustainably improve the team’s focus and consistency.
Ultimately, the entire Scrum Team is accountable for delivering a valuable and useful Increment every Sprint. Within the team, there are three specific accountabilities – the Developers, the Product Owner, and the Scrum Master – all working together to achieve the common goal.
